Third win in a row for Pure Joy in class Silver final at Marsa Racetrack

The 15th and the 16th meeting of the season were held during the weekend at the Marsa Racetrack. These meetings included seventeen races all for trotters.

The main event was the Phone Refix Championship final for class Silver trotters on a short distance of 2,140 metres. This final was won by Pure Joy driven by Cherise Farrugia.

Twelve trotters lined up in the class Silver final.

Harcange (Paul Galea) was the fastest horse at first, opening a small lead from Envol The Best (Cliferty Calleja), Dats Trixi (Rodney Gatt), and Comand (Jesmar Gafa’).

Around 700 metres from the end, various trotters started to increase their speed, among which Swedish Pure Joy (Cherise Farrugia), which eventually took the lead and managed to win after sustaining the challenge of Jewel Meslois (Redent Magro) in the final straight.

Onas Sabina (Marco Debono)  and Hulk De La Vallee (Laura Frendo) ended respectively in third and fourth place.

At the end of this final, Charles Zammit, on behalf of the sponsors, presented the winning trophy to Cherise Farrugia and to Michael Sultana and Jonathan Borg, the driver and the owners respectively of the winning horse.

Sunday’s card also included the two semifinals from the BOV Tazza l-Kbira championship for class Premier trotters on a long distance of 2640 metres. 

From these semi-finals, 12 trotters made it to the final stage.

As expected in the first semifinal, favourite Italian Dj Spritz (Daniel Hili) led all the way during the 2640 mtres distance.

Hili’s trotter past the finishing post easily by a length from Ghostbuster (Rodney Gatt), Isocrate D’Ela (Jesmar Gafa’) and Cash Bank Bigi (Paul Galea).

For DJ Spritz, this was its sixth win in a row, and it has recently also won the President’s Cup.

Ginkgo Thelois (Clint Vassallo) ended in fifth place infront of Gardon which was driven by French Pierrick Le Moel.

Similar was the second semifinal from the same competition.

French Hudo Du Ruel (Rodney Gatt) was unchallenged during the distance and triumphed by a length from Forbach (Redent Magro), Rampant (Cherise Farrugia) and Gaucho De Houelle (Jesmar Gafa’).

For Hudo Du Ruel, this was its second consecutive win.

Rally Inge (Jonathan J Farrugia) and Gasolin (Clint Vassallo) were the last horses to make it to the final stage.
