Floriana and Balzan FC are in talks to conclude the biggest transfer so far in the January transfer window.
Sources have told the Times of Malta that the two Premier League clubs are in talks over an exchange deal that would see young striker Jan Busuttil leave Floriana and join Balzan with Malta midfielder Jake Grech heading in the other direction.
Negotiations are thought to be at an advanced stage as an agreement has already been reached in principle between the two Premier League sides who are now looking to agree on personal terms with both Jake Grech and Jan Busuttil.
Should this transfer go through, both Floriana and Balzan would be acquiring very talented players in their ranks.
Jake Grech had been on the books of Balzan for six months after he joined the Reds from Hibernians last summer.
So far, he made 12 appearances with Balzan and only managed to score one goal.
On the other hand, Jan Busuttil is seen as one of the most talented forwards in Maltese football and had been seen to be the future of Floriana FC following some bright performances for the club last season which helped him to break into the national team.
Busuttil is in his first year of a three-year contract with Floriana. However, the 24-year-old has struggled to secure first-team football with Mauro Camoranesi’s team and has only managed to make four appearances at the club, scoring one goal.
Should this transfer go through, Jake Grech is expected to make his debut for Floriana in Sunday’s Premier League clash against Sta Lucia while Busuttil will be in line to play for Balzan against Ħamrun Spartans on Saturday.
