Hungary to face Switzerland, Germany, Scotland in the European Championships.
Malta will be lining up against Hungary in a high-profile international friendly, the Hungarian FA president Sandor Csanyi revealed on Tuesday.
In an interview with a local news agency, the president underlined that although the negotiations have not been concluded, Hungary is expected to play four matches in preparation for this summer’s big appointment.
Hungary are likely to face Turkey and Kosovo in March’s international window while Ireland and Malta are expected to take on Marco Rossi’s selection in June.
“Right before the European Championship, we play Ireland – the coach’s request was a team with a similar style to Scotland – and Malta,” Csanyi said.
“Ireland away, Malta at home, probably in one of the local clubs’ stadiums or in the Groupama Arena,” the head of the MLSZ summarized.
The Hungarian side will start their pre-Euro training camp on May 27 before heading to their championship headquarters on June 10, so it is expected that the Malta friendly will be scheduled during that timeframe.
In March, Michele Marcolini’s Malta will host Slovenia, another Euro 2024 participant, and Belarus.
