Malta men’s national team coach Michele Marcolini has selected a 30-player provisional squad to start their preparations for June’s high-profile friendlies against Czechia and Greece.

The 30 players will gather this Thursday with the two matches scheduled for June 7 and June 11 respectively, both to be hosted at the Stadion Grodig in Austria.

Sliema Wanderers’ goalkeeper Rashed Al-Tumi is named in the squad, having been his side’s hero in Sunday’s FA Trophy final against Floriana after saving two penalties en route to victory.

Jean Borg and Myles Beerman, also FA Trophy winners with Sliema, are included in the squad.

Malta champions Ħamrun Spartans are represented by six players including the returning Ryan Camenzuli, who missed out on the last international window due to an injury, and league top scorer Luke Montebello.

Floriana, runners-up in both league and cup, also have six players listed including Matias Garcia who has received his first call-up under Marcolini.

Five foreign-based players are included in Marcolini’s squad including former Gżira United defender Luke Tabone.

Tabone, 26, is on the books of Welsh side Haverfordwest County with whom he played 33 games and scored 1 goal this season.

Missing out from the squad is Notts County’s winger Jodi Jones, who was named League Two’s Player of the Year after a record-breaking campaign after breaking a new English record for the most assists in a season (24).

Times of Malta Sport is awaiting more information about his absence.
