Rylee Borg produced a solid showing at the IWF World Championships as the Maltese lifter set new junior records in the 81kg C category in the Spanish city of Leon.
Borg endured a shaky start in the Snatch, initially missing his first attempt at 113kg.
However, he successfully lifted 113kg on his second attempt and then followed it up with a successful lift of 116kg.
In the Clean and Jerk, Borg opened with a successful 142kg.
On his second attempt at 147kg, he unfortunately missed the Jerk.
Determined, to make up for it, Borg tried again at 147kg in his third and final attempt, which he successfully lifted.
This successful attempt saw Borg finishing in third place in the Clean and Jerk within his group.
However, more importantly, his 147kg Clean and Jerk attempt and his total lift of 263kg set a new Maltese Junior record.
Borg was Malta’s last lifter in action at the IWF Championships.
Earlier in the competition, Tenishia Thornton placed 10th in the world rankings in the 64kg category, while Kim Camilleri Laganà finished seventh in her group and 11th in the world rankings.
The Malta Weightlifting Association’s participation at the IWF Championships was made possible with the assistance of the Maltese Olympic Committee and SportMalta.
