The Malta Weightlifting Association is currently represented by a team of athletes at the IWF Under 20 World Championships that are currently being held in the city of Leon, in Spain.
The Maltese contingent is formed by Kim Camilleri Lagana, Tenishia Thornton and Rylee Borg and is led by association president Jesmond Caruana.
Sixteen-year-old Camilleri Lagana was the first Maltese lifter in action when she took part in the 49kg B category.
In the Snatch, Camilleri Lagania started with a successful attempt on 64kg. She went on for an attempt on 66kg which, however, proved to be unsuccessful.
In the Clean and Jerk, Camilleri Lagana opened up with a strong 84kg and followed it up with a successful lift at 86kg.
Camilleri Lagana ended her commitments in the competition with a total score of 150kg.
In the overall standings, Camilleri Lagana finished in seventh place while she placed sixth in the Clean and Jerk.
The Maltese lifter finished ahead of lifters from Spain, Japan and Tunisia.
Malta will be now back in the action at the championships on Sunday when Tenishia Thornton will be in action in the 64kg A category while on the following day, Rylee Borg will take part in the 81kg C category.
