Malta, Birkirkara women player Alishia Cassar bids farewell to football

Malta and Birkirkara women player Alishia Cassar has bid farewell to football after 17 seasons.

She made her debut in 2009/2010 with Kirkop United before becoming a key figure at Birkirkara.

At Kirkop, she played 23 matches and scored once. She joined Birkirkara, where she became a cornerstone of the team – making 263 appearances and scoring 101 goals in domestic competitions.

Alishia was part of the dominant Birkirkara side that lifted multiple league titles and domestic trophies in recent years.

She Featured 20 times in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, netting one goal.

In addition, she represented Malta 61 times at senior level, scoring twice – both in the February 2024 international window against Belarus (1-1) and the Faroe Islands (2-0).
