Floriana FC announced their first signing of the summer transfer window when they agreed terms with Brazilian defender Iago Mendonca, the Premier League club announced.
The Greens are looking to rebuild their squad after a somewhat disappointing 2024-25 season which saw them miss out on both the Premier League title and the FA Trophy.
Floriana have already replaced coach Darren Abdilla with Daniel Portela.
“Floriana FC is pleased to announce the signing of Brazilian defender Iago Mendonça,” the club said in a statement.
“At 25 years old, Iago joins the club with experience gained from playing both in Europe and South America, and now looks ahead to a new chapter in Maltese football.
“We welcome Iago to the Floriana family and wish him the very best in green and white.”
Mendonca has experience in the Portuguese second division as last season was on the books of Alverca where he made nine appearances.
Earlier in his career, he played in his homeland Brazil where he was on the books of Goias, Aparecidense as well as Vila Nova and Patrocinense.
Mendonca’s arrival was announced a few minutes after Floriana FC have announced that they had parted ways with Oualid El Hasni.
“Floriana FC extends its sincere gratitude to Oualid El Hasni for his commitment and contribution during his time with the club. As the club will not be extending the contractual relationship, we take this opportunity to thank him for his efforts, dedication, and professionalism on and off the pitch,” the club said.
“We wish Oualid the very best in his future endeavours and continued success in his professional football career.”
