Ħamrun Spartans have reached an agreement to sign Lithuanian international midfielder Domantas Simkus.
The 29-year-old is an established international player who represented his country 30 times at senior level and has 12 caps for the Lithuanian U-21 national team.
Simkus is the Spartans’ first signing of the summer transfer window and is set to fill the void left by Elionay Freitas, who was not retained by the Malta champions.
Ħamrun Spartans president Joseph Portelli confirmed the transfer during Thursday’s Annual General Meeting.
The right-footed midfielder has been on the books of Lithuanian top-flight side FA Siauliai for the past 18 months. This season, Simkus collected 13 appearances and scored one goal.
But prior to his stint at Siaulia, Simkus had a spell in Denmark where he played for Aalborg BK before returning to his homeland where he donned the colours of Atlantas and Zalgiris.
In January 2021, he had a short loan spell in Israel with Hapoel Kfar Saba before moving to Kazakhstan, where played for FK Sabail.
In 2022, he moved to NS Mura in Slovenia, where he played for the whole season.
Simkus is set to be the first of nine new foreign players that will be registered by the Spartans this summer as they look to retain their Premier League title crown as well as a strong performance in the UEFA club competitions.
