Malta international Sara Saliba joins champions Swieqi United

Malta women’s league champions Swieqi United have completed a major coup in this summer transfer window, acquiring the services of talented forward Sara Saliba.

Saliba, 18, is one of the best upcoming prospects in the local women’s game. She made her senior debut with Birkirkara, whom she helped to win multiple domestic titles.

She has also played in Italy, having been on the books of Pomigliano and Milan.

Last year, Saliba made her national team debut during the European qualifications, League B match against Portugal.

Her announcement comes a day after Swieqi welcomed back Kaysia Micallef, who was on the books of Sampdoria last season.

The Owls, coached by Dorianne Theuma, will represent Malta in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League as they will take on Agarista SS, champions of Moldova, in the semi-final of the first qualifying round.
