Luke Micallef sets Over 35 record at Ravenna Half Marathon, becomes second fastest Maltese on distance

Long-distance runner Luke Micallef became the second fastest Maltese athlete in the Half Marathon on his way to setting a new Over 35 national record at the Ravenna Half Marathon on Sunday.

Micallef stormed home in seventh place overall with a time of one hour, four minutes, and 57 seconds.

His timing was still one minute and 16 seconds slower than the national best set by Jordan Gusman at the Aramco Houston Half Marathon when he clocked 1:03.41 in January 2023.

Micallef finished seventh overall and topped the Over 35 category in the Ravenna race with a new national best in the class.

Kenya’s Philemon Koskey topped the race in a time of one hour, three minutes and 37.09 seconds.

Koskey finished ahead of his fellow countryman Enos Kakopil, who stopped the watch on 1:03.54.60 while Uganda’s Kibet Difas completed the podium on 1:04.03.83.

Simon Spiteri was another Maltese runner in action in Ravenna, and he managed to clock a new personal best when completing the distance in 1:07.30.73.
