Winston Muscat takes over at Naxxar Lions

Winston Muscat is the new coach of Naxxar Lions, the Premier League club announced in a statement.

Muscat replaces George Vella who stepped down from his job on Sunday.

The Lions are currently fighting to keep their Premier League status and are coming from a depressing run of results that saw the team pick up one point from their last four matches, and are bottom of the standings.

For Muscat, this will be his second spell with Naxxar Lions as he was in charge of the club between November 2011 and October 2014, where he led the team from the dugout for 43 matches.

Winston Muscat’s last job was at the helm of Ħamrun Spartans in the second part of last season, where he managed to lead the Reds to the Premier League title.

However, despite this success, the Ħamrun Spartans’ top hierarchy decided not to retain his services and appoint Italian coach Giacomo Modica.

Muscat is expected to lead Naxxar’s first training session on Monday evening as they start their preparations
