Antonella Chouhal was also confirmed as Secretary General, with both roles uncontested.
Completing the executive team are Stefania Cilia Caligari, who was elected as treasurer, taking over from Darren Micallef, who leaves the Council after five years in the post.
In addition, Alan Camilleri, Karl Farrugia, Alan Zammit, John Attard Kingswell and Tiziana Zammit were elected to the Council as members.
Addressing the AGM, Mario Bonello said that over the past year, the new administration had focused on building a stronger structure, improving sustainability, increasing visibility and reinforcing the foundations of Athletics Malta, with early results already evident in growing participation levels.
He noted that Athletics Malta organised 26 track competitions and supported 60 road races over the year, underlining the sport’s expanding reach locally.
Over the past months, the federation strengthened its investment in youth programmes, education, and safeguarding, while infrastructural investment continued regularly.
Looking ahead, Bonello emphasised the importance of preparation for the upcoming Malta Youth International Athletics Festival as well as the 2027 Commonwealth Youth Games, which will leave a legacy in the sport.
Secretary General Chouhal presented the administrative report, indicated key activities undertaken by the federation, and highlighted several successful performances by Maltese athletes abroad.
On behalf of the Association, she expressed her appreciation to the outgoing members of Council, Darren Micallef and Vince Farrugia.
During the AGM, members also voted on a series of amendments to the statute, designed to better equip the governing body to meet the realities of the modern sporting world, while simultaneously strengthening its governance and organisational framework.
