In a statement, the Premier League club welcomed this advancement, which further elevates the project from a football-focused initiative to one of clear national importance within Malta’s broader football development agenda.
“Crucially, today’s approval at Committee stage reflects unanimous agreement between Government and the Opposition, confirming that the value of the project transcends political lines and is recognised at a national level,” the club said in a statement.
“This broad consensus follows the Prime Minister’s announcement in February 2026 that Government would be proposing the allocation of a site in Pembroke for the development of the Campus, a position that was subsequently reinforced through public support expressed by the Leader of the Opposition.
“Together, these developments provide the unified backing required for the successful delivery of a project of long-term impact.
As previously outlined, the Valletta FC Football Campus, which is aligned with existing planning policies and frameworks, is envisioned as a state-of-the-art football hub, with a strong focus on youth development, education, wellbeing and sport.
Once completed, the Campus will represent a first-of-its-kind facility in Malta, forming part of a holistic vision to deliver high-level sporting infrastructure.
It is expected to generate opportunities across multiple sectors, including football, health, rehabilitation, sports science, education and sports management, alongside related ancillary activities, the club said.
Commenting on this milestone, Valletta FC president Claudio Grech said: “Today’s unanimous support at Committee stage sends a very strong and clear message that this project is firmly in the national interest and rises above political considerations.
“For Valletta FC, this is not only a major step forward, but a moment that reflects fairness, unity and shared purpose.
“After decades of uncertainty, we are now progressing on the basis of broad consensus, which gives this project the stability and legitimacy it requires.
“Most importantly, this is about creating a lasting legacy for future generations — providing our youths, children and our community with the infrastructure they deserve.”
Valletta FC thanked NAO Accounts Committee chairman Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg, Minister Clifton Grima and MP’s Davina Sammut Hili, Cressida Galea, David Agius, Darren Carabott and Stanley Zammit for their support in the committee.
“Valletta FC will now continue to engage constructively with all stakeholders as the project progresses through its next phases, including ongoing dialogue with the local community and the Pembroke Local Council to ensure a collaborative and positive path forward,” the statement concluded.

This is a disgrace and all the MPs who voted for it shows that they do not care what the people want. How is it legal for the government and the opposition to go against the wishes of the residents of Pembroke
