More than 250 athletes in Malta for water polo fundraiser

More than 250 athletes from Europe and the United States will compete in a masters water polo tournament in Malta next week, with proceeds going towards inclusive sporting programmes.

The Gillette WAM International Masters 2026 will be held between June 12 and 14 at the Cottonera Sports Complex, bringing together 20 men’s and women’s teams for three days of competition.

Organised by Waterpolo Ability Malta, the tournament is the voluntary organisation’s main annual fundraising event and will help finance programmes aimed at making water polo accessible to people of different abilities.

WAM founder and organiser Tim Camilleri said the event showed the “incredible spirit” of the masters water polo community, with athletes travelling to Malta not only to compete but also to support the organisation’s work.

The tournament will feature experienced athletes competing at masters level, while also raising funds for WAM’s inclusion, wellbeing and social engagement initiatives.

WAM said the event, dubbed the Gillette Wam International Masters, was intended to combine competitive sport with community fundraising, supporting its aim of ensuring water polo remains open to all.
