Birkirkara have completed the signing of Malta international defender Zach Muscat.
The Premier League club said in a statement that they had agreed terms with the experienced defender, who returns to Maltese football after a spell in Portuguese football.
“Birkirkara FC is delighted to announce the return of Maltese international defender Zach Muscat,” the Premier League club said in a statement.
“A familiar face to the Birkirkara family, Zach returns to the club where he won every major domestic honour during his time in the Stripes’ colours.
“Bringing with him valuable experience, leadership, and quality from his years playing abroad, his return marks a special moment for everyone connected with the club.”
For Muscat this transfer marks a return to the Premier League club he played with for four years earlier in his career.
Muscat joined Birkirkara in the summer of 2012 and helped the Stripes winning a league title, the FA Trophy and the Super Cup.
He then left Malta to continue his career in Italy with Akragas, Arezzo and Pistoiese.
In 2019, he headed to Portuguese football where he donned the colours of Olhanense, Casa Pia and Farense.
In 2025, Muscat moved to Turkey to play for Sanliurfaspor but his spell there lasted a few months before he returned to Portuguese football with Chaves.
