Major moves reshape Assikura Women’s League ahead of new season

The summer transfer window has brought a flurry of activity across the Assikura Women’s League, with Valletta emerging as one of the busiest clubs.

The Citizens have significantly altered the transfer landscape by launching an ambitious project under former Serie A Femminile coach Salvatore Mango, beginning with the signing of Emma Lipman.

Valletta have also secured the services of reigning league champion Brenda Borg from Mġarr United, experienced goalkeeper Janice Xuereb from Birkirkara, Swieqi United’s Jade Schembri and youngster Kay Axiak – formerly of Birkirkara and Swieqi.

Defending champions Mġarr United have also strengthened their squad, adding Uganda international Sylvia Kabene from Hibernians and American forward Carlyn Presley as they seek to retain their league crown.

Super Cup holders Swieqi United have recruited Hibernians captain Nicole Sciberras and Ileana Farrugia from the Paolites. Dorianne Theuma’s side have also secured the futures of several key players, including captain Shona Zammit, forward Sara Saliba and their foreign trio of goalkeeper Patricia Araujo, defender Rafanny and midfielder Andela Kricak.

Birkirkara have focused on retaining the core of their squad, renewing the contract of captain Stephania Farrugia while keeping Japanese duo Haruhi Sekura and Momo Ueda.

San Ġwann have targeted young talent during the transfer window while ensuring the retention of foreign players Naila Addo and Mariama Kasim.
