This was Micallef’s first ever national title in the US, having finished 9th in the 100-y freestyle final in 43.55.
In the process, Micallef set a new Sunshine State Conference and FSC program record.
The senior has dominated sprint events at the team and conference level throughout his career and placed eighth in last year’s 50-y free NCAA finals.
A 16-time All-American, Micallef made it to the A final three years in a row and earned his fourth-straight NCAA appearance after his automatic qualification time of 19.48 set at the Panther Invitational.
At this year’s SSC Championships, Micallef won the 50-y free and placed second in the 100-y free, while adding three relay titles to earn his third All-SSC honor of his career.
In last year’s GSSE, Micallef won gold after finishing first in the 50m race in 22.68.
