Driven by Noel Baldacchino, Firstly Light won Sunday’s Tazza San Franġisk final for class Copper trotters at the Marsa Racetrack.
Twelve trotters lined up for the class Copper final. Easy Sam (Charles Camilleri) was the fastest horse at first, opening a small lead from Easy Oaks (Rodney Gatt) and Rasputin LG (Jesmar Gafà).
Noel Baldacchino with the favourite Firstly Light dashed strongly from the outside during the last 600m and took the lead in the final straight to gain its fourth consecutive win and its sixth of the year after sustaining the challenge of Ernest des Angles (Charlton Gauci) in the final metres.
Easy Oaks (Rodney Gatt) and Lady Red Summer (Joseph Mercieca) ended respectively in third and fourth place.
At the end of this final, MRC official Joe Zerafa, presented the winning trophy to Baldacchino and Robert Attard, the driver and owner respectively of the winning horse.
Sunday’s card included also the three semi-finals from the Johnnie Walker championship for class Gold trotters and the two semi-finals from the Executive Security Services for class Silver trotters and which were all held on a short distance of 2140m.
The first semi final was won by Neverendingdream (Rodney Gatt) which took its second win in a row and its fourth of the year after taking the lead midway through the final straight. Braveheart Jiel (Claudio Refalo), Drogba Bob (Charles Camilleri) and Blackbird Wood (Donio Vella) also made it to the final stage.
Rodney Gatt also won the second semifinal from the same championship with Foxy Brown. This Swedish mare increased its pace with 400m to go and past the finishing post first easily by ten lenghts from Frankie Brodde (Noel Baldacchino). For Foxy Brown this was its fourth win of the year and its second consecutive one.
In the third and last semifinal it was Castle Rose (Marco Debono) which upped its pace with a lap to go and succeeded in taking its fourth win of the year from Janske (Charles Camilleri) and Chemsak Vedaquais (Jeffrey Said).
