The 46th meeting of the year, which was held on Sunday afternoon at the Marsa Racetrack, heralded the start of the Prix De Vincennes championship for French trotters registered in class Premier.
The championship featured four heats on a long distance of 2640m. Sunday’s card consisted of eleven races all for trotters.
In the first class Premier heat, Vanderlov (Melvin Farrugia) sealed its fourth win of the season after upping its pace during the last 500m. He triumphed by a whisker from Alf De Melandre (Rodney Gatt) and Banco De L’Iton (Noel Baldacchino).
Vencedor (Mario Fenech) was unchallenged during the 2640m distance of the second Premier heat. This French trotter registered its third win in Malta from Until Oaks (Noel Baldacchino) and Braveheart Jiel (Marco Refalo).
In the third class Premier heat, Andante (Clint Vassallo) took its first win in Malta. This trotter sprinted well in the last metres and past the finishing post first easily by ten lengths from Up And Go (Noel Baldacchino) and Avrik De Guez (Carmelo Farrugia).
Vertige De Chenu (Charles Camilleri), the early leader of the fourth heat, changed its pace midway through the final straight and was overtaken by French newcomer Bijou De Carsi (Rodney Gatt) which won from another debutante Crack Du Tillet (Andrew Farrugia) and Vasco De Viette (Cliferty Calleja).
Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held on Sunday. The first race should start at 1pm.
