The fourth meeting of the season which was held at the Marsa Racetrack heralded the start of the first championship of this season yesterday afternoon.
This is the Assikura Championship for class Bronze trotters on a short distance of 2,140m. From the eight heats of this championship, 32 horses made it to the semi-final stage. Yesterday’s card included also a normal class Premier race on a long distance of 2640m and which was won by French Amour Du Loup driven by Noel Baldacchino.
Thirteen trotters lined up in the class Premier race.
Vangiskan Scott (Anton Cassar) was the fastest horse at first, opening a small lead from Liam Dana (Charles Camilleri) and French newcomer Casanova Du Corta (Cliferty Calleja).
However, 600m to go, the early leader ran out of steam. The latter was overtaken by Amour Du Loup (Noel Baldacchino) which sprinted well in order to take its first win of the season by a length and a half from Aster Des Caillons (Chaarles Degiorgio) and Liam Dana (Charles Camilleri).
Alcibiade (Patrick Spiteri) followed behind in fourth place. The winner clocked an average time of 1.16.9” per kilometer.
