Rabat Ajax secured promotion to the Challenge League after defeating Kirkop United 2-1 after extra-time in the National Amateur League promotion play-off final.
For Rabat this was a return to the second-tier of Maltese football after a three-year wait.
The match was evenly balanced in the first half with the Magpies holding a slight edge over their opponents.
Rabat started the second half strongly and took the lead after 48 minutes through Aidan Azzopardi.
However, when it looked as though that Rabat were set to win the match, Kirkop were awarded a penalty in stoppage time and Dylan Tanti scored from the spot to force extra-time.
In overtime, both teams tried to get a winner and it was Rabat who netted the all-important goal on 113 minutes when Nestor Luis silva fired home to send the Rabat clan into raptures.
At the end of the match, MFA vice-president Adrian Casha presented the promotion plaque and medals to the Rabat players.
