Fgura United match postponed after captain ends in hospital

Dylan Caruana suffered a serious head injury during Sunday's clash against St Andrews.

Malta FA moves league match against Balzan to give club time to process Dylan Caruana’s injury

The Malta Football Association has accepted Fgura United’s request to postpone Saturday’s Challenge League clash against leaders Balzan.

The request from Fgura United was made in the light of the events that happened in last weekend’s clash against St Andrews, during which the club had skipper Dylan Caruana suffering a serious head injury.

The Times of Malta reported on Tuesday that Caruana was hospitalised after a clash of heads with team-mate Abdel Rahman in the closing stages of the match.

Given the seriousness of his injury, Caruana was placed in an induced coma and remains in intensive care, while Rahman was discharged from the hospital.

The incident has inevitably affected psychologically the whole Fgura United clan, and the Challenge League club asked the Malta FA to move the match from Saturday to another date to allow the players and staff the necessary time and space to process the situation and support one another.

The Malta FA has accepted Fgura United’s request and has now moved the match against Balzan to Tuesday at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, with kick-off time set at 8.30pm.

This was the second match involving Fgura United FC that was postponed by the Malta FA after Monday’s U-21 clash against Swieqi United was also moved to another date since several members of the team were part of their senior squad that featured on Saturday.

The incident has sparked a huge wave of support from all the football fraternity in Malta, with many clubs from various divisions expressing their solidarity to both players involved and Fgura United FC in this difficult time.
