Two Fgura United players hospitalised after clash of heads in Sunday’s match against St Andrews

Two Fgura United players had to be hospitalised after suffering a head injury in the closing stages of Sunday’s Challenge League clash against St Andrews at the Centenary Stadium.

The match was heading into stoppage time when Fgura skipper Dylan Caruana and substitute Alan Abdel Rahman collided in the air in an unfortunate incident that left both players needing medical attention and were quickly taken to Mater Dei Hospital for further care.

“In an unfortunate incident at the end of the Challenge League clash between Fgura United and St Andrew’s, which was played at the Centenary Stadium, two of our players collided with their heads, with the consequence that they needed to be taken to hospital for further care,” Fgura United said in a statement.

“In this difficult time, Fgura United stands close to the players and their family members with the hope that they receive positive medical results.”

The Malta Football Players Association also issued a statement to show its support to both the players involved and the Challenge League club.

“Our thoughts are with the two Fgura United FC players who suffered injuries following an unfortunate incident in the closing stages of the Challenge League match against St Andrew’s yesterday,” the MFPA said in a statement.

“While wishing both players a full and timely recovery, the MFPA will remain in close contact with the club to offer any support or assistance as may be required.”
