Balzan secured the BOV Challenge League title with a 2-0 victory over Melita, sealing an immediate return to the Malta Premier League after just one season away.

Goals from Sean Cipriott and Samir Arab ensured Balzan finished top of the standings on 48 points, confirming their promotion as champions.

Attention now shifts to the battle for the second promotion spot, which will be decided via a play-off after Birżebbuġa St Peter’s and Swieqi United ended level on points in a dramatic conclusion to the campaign.

Swieqi entered their final fixture as favourites against Fgura United and took the lead through Paul Fenech. However, Fgura responded with an equaliser from Karl Formosa, a result that ultimately proved costly.

Birżebbuġa, meanwhile, produced a spirited comeback to defeat Sirens 3-2, overturning a deficit to claim a crucial victory that kept their promotion hopes alive.

The outcome leaves the two sides locked together in the standings, setting up a decisive play-off to determine who will join Balzan in next season’s top flight – a historic opportunity for both clubs.
