SportMalta National Conference gets underway on Friday

SportMalta will start to celebrate ten years of hard work towards sport and physical activity during a National Conference ‘Celebrating Sport In Malta 2024’ that will get underway at the Radisson Hotel Golden Bay on Friday morning.

The conference will tackle various subjects that are related directly or indirectly to sport and is open for teachers, coaches, students, prospective teachers, parents of athletes, and sporting organisation to not only listen to high-profile speakers but to also discuss and give advice for the next ten years of the entity.

Among the subjects to be discussed between today and tomorrow are mental well-being, the national strategy of education, green and open spaces for physical activity in the community, support to young athletes, the European Week of Sport and other campaigns and the strategy for the sustainability and legacy of top-level events.

SportMalta has invited several international speakers to share their good practices during the conference.

The European football governing body UEFA will be represented by Oliver Gudet who will provide a presentation on the organisation of Euro 2024 and show how this event can be sustainable and leave a legacy in the host country.

World Rugby will be represented by Jason Lewis and Greg Woods who will focus on the growth of the sport in schools and the Rugby World Cup that was held in France last year.

SportMalta has also invited Barbara Brennan who will speak on mental well-being on the work place.

There will also be a number of discussion panels from several local representatives that will talk on various subjects related to sport.

These will hail from the Minister of Education, the University of Malta, SportMalta, AIMS, MCAST and sporting clubs.

Pierre Cassar, the director of marketing and media at the University of Malta, will be the moderator during the whole event.

The conference will be closed by the Minister for Education and Sport, Clifton Grima, who will present financial assistance to local sporting associations that will participate in international events in 2024.
