The Malta men’s futsal team made it three wins from three in the Euro Futsal qualifying group stage after beating Switzerland 2-1, in their final game of this stage.
Marrwan Telisi and Michael Borg scored the winning goals as Malta made history by finishing first in this stage of the competition.
Led by Gabriel Dobre, they were at the back of two big wins over Scotland and Switzerland as Malta had already qualified to the Main Round of the Futsal Euro 2026 qualifications.
Malta will discover its opponents on May 30 before they launch their second phase commitments in December with the Main Round coming to an end in April of next year.
The Maltese team will be among the 40 teams that will be involved in the Main Round.
The other teams are holders Portugal, Spain, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, France, Finland, Croatia, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Azerbaijan, Serbia, Georgia, Netherlands, Romania, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Armenia, Belgium, Belarus, Moldova, Germany, North Macedonia, Sweden, Montenegro, Kosovo, England, Denmark, Albania, Norway, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Andorra, Switzerland, Austria and one between Israel, Bulgaria and San Marino which will be determined on Sunday.
Latvia and Lithuania will co-host the finals in 2026.
