Semifinals to take place in May
Swieqi United, University of Malta ACJ Group, ŻRQ Bormla, and Luxol St Andrews advanced to the E & L Futsal Trophy semi-finals with convincing victories against their respective opponents.
Holders University of Malta ACJ Group secured a solid 4-0 victory against Birżebbuġa St Peter’s Futsal to secure their place in the last four. Brazilian player Guilherme Fonseca scored a brace, while Steven Camilleri and Melvin Borg contributed additional goals for their team. The referees for the match were Andrea Naudi and Danilo Francalanza.
Last year’s finalists, Luxol St Andrew’s, cruised to an 11-1 victory against the Maltese under-18 team. Victor Oliveira Dias completed a hat-trick, supported by doubles from Matthew Attard and Marwan Telisi. Luke Gatt, Jhon Castro Pulido, Andy Mangion, and Robert Stoyanov also found the net for Luxol St Andrew’s. The Maltese youth team managed their solitary goal through an own goal by Mark Zammit. Clint Cassar and Antonio Cassar officiated the match.
ŽRQ Bormla faced a tough challenge in eliminating Challenger League team Ta’ Xbiex Futsal with a 4-2 win. Despite leading 3-0 at halftime, ŻRQ Bormla faced a spirited comeback from Ta’ Xbiex, who scored twice in the second half. Goals for ŻRQ Bormla came from Karl Luke Schembri, Rodrigo Da Silva, Karl Sciortino, and an own goal by Christian Wismayer. Ta’ Xbiex reduced the deficit through Stefi Cale and Redeemer Borg. Referees Stephen Vella and Andrea Naudi oversaw the match.
Swieqi United Futsal secured the final spot in the semi-finals with an 8-1 victory against the Maltese under-19 team. Argentinian player Marcelo Ezequiel Alarcon shone with a hat-trick, supported by braces from Ryan Muscat and Brandon Debono. Rodney Debono and Dylan Pace also contributed to the scoring. The young Maltese side managed to score their only goal through Ivin Gatt. Referees Danilo Francalanza and Sillah Alhasana officiated the match.
The E & L Futsal Trophy semi-finals are scheduled to take place in mid-May. Swieqi United Futsal will face ŻRQ Bormla, while holders University of Malta ACJ Group will clash with Luxol St Andrew’s.
