Influential midfielder Matthew Debattista will be donning the Melita FC colours for another season.
Debattista is coming from a very strong campaign with Melita FC as the talented midfielder played a leading role for Clive Mizzi’s side to not only secure a return to Premier League football but also be crowned as Challenge League champions.
The contract extension of Debattista is a major achievement for Melita as the player has spent all his career at the club, going through the side’s nursery and establishing himself as one of the key players for coach Clive Mizzi.
Last season, Debattista was an inspiring figure for Melita and his performances did not go unnoticed by Malta U-21 coach Ivan Woods who recalled him to the Malta U-21 and also gave him his international debut in a Euro qualifier against Belgium.
Added to that, this season Debattista made his 100th appearance with the club as well as finding the net eight times.
Debattista’s fine season was rewarded at the end of the season as the young midfielder was crowned as the Challenge League Best Player in both the MFPA Awards as well as the Malta FA awards.
The 21-year-old Debattista becomes the latest player to confirm his future with Melita after the club has also secured new deals for forwards Andre Carlos, Yesus Yepez and Santiago Martinez, defender Henrique Motta as well as midfielder Karl Mohnani.
