The Malta men’s futsal national team will rub shoulders with Italy, Finland and Belarus in the upcoming European Championship qualifications.
Coached by Gabriel Dobre, the Maltese selection was drawn in Group 2 in Thursday’s draws.
For Malta, this will be the first experience in the main round of the qualifying phase, having strolled past Scotland, Gibraltar and Switzerland in the preliminary round.
The matches will take place between next December and April 2025, with the 10 group winners advancing to the finals while the eight-best runners up will move into the play-offs.
Malta is currently ranked 103rd in the FIFA rankings.
Italy are ranked 18th in the world and have won the European title in 2003 and 2014.
Belarus and Finland never won a major tournament with the Finns making their Euros debut in 2022 having reached the quarter-final.
