Velvet Gio and Formi won Sunday’s major events at the Marsa Racetrack. These were the semi-finals from the EquestriMalta President’s Cup for class Premier trotters on a short distance of 2140m.
The semi-finals formed part of the 35th meeting of the season consisting of eight races all for trotters From the two semi-finals, 12 trotters made it to the final stage.
In the first class Premier semi-final, Velvet Gio (Rodney Gatt) took the lead around 300m from the finishing line. This Italian trotter sealed its second win in a row easily by two lengths from Akela Play (Charles Degiorgio) and Charming Soldier (Paul Galea).
Diablo D’Herfraie (Michael Ellul), Douglas Du Pont (Ludvic Ghigo) and Whothehillareyou (Tony Demanuele) also made it to the final stage.
For Rodney Gatt this was his third win of the day. The winner clocked an average time of 1.13.4” per kilometer.
Formi (Joe Schembri) led all the way during the 2140m distance of the second class Premier semifinal.
This French trotter registered its second win in Malta after sustaining the challenge of Disco D’Occagnes (Redent Magro) in the final metres.
Frappe Fort (Marius Mizzi), Farfars Dream (Ludvic Ghigo), Ellington Dream (Cherise Farrugia) and Caid Sly (Anthony Scicluna) followed home in that order.
Formi clocked an average time of 1.14” per kilometre.
Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held on Friday. The first race should start at 7pm.
