The 44th meeting of the season consisting of nine races all for trotters was held on Sunday afternoon at the Marsa Racetrack.
The most important race was that reserved for class Premier trotters on a long distance of 2640m. This was won by Caprice De Cosse under the guidance of Mario Fenech.
Eleven trotters lined up in the class Premier race.
This event was characterised by a keen duel in the final straight between Swedish M.T. Montpellier (Cliferty Calleja) and French Caprice De Cosse (Mario Fenech).
It was the latter which took its first win of the year with Ghost (Charles Degiorgio) and Espit Chupitos (Charles Camilleri) ending respectively in third and fourth place. The winner clocked an average time of 1.15.4” per kilometre.
Yesterday’s card included also two races for class Gold trotters. In the first one, French Destrier D’Or (Redent Magro) registered its first win in Malta after increasing its speed 500 metres from the finishing line.
Magro’s trotter outsmarted Typhoeus Face (Noel Baldacchino) in the final metres. Felicio Du Joamax (Jason Zahra) and Mellby Drake (Jonathan Spiteri) followed home in that order.
Funny Boy (Marco Debono) led all the way during the 2640m distance of the second class Gold race. This Swedish trotter sealed its first win in Malta from Bicetre (Cliferty Calleja) and Billie Holiday (Rodney Gatt). Quite E Wood (Jean Pierre Farrugia) ended in fourth place.
