Newcomers Isabelle Sisu and Kennedy steal the limelight in Class Premier heats

The third meeting of the season, consisting of 11 races all for trotters, was held on Sunday afternoon at the Marsa racetrack.

The programme heralded the start of the first two championships of the season, the Southern Region Local Council championship for class Premier trotters and the Assikura Championship for class Gold trotters.

Both championships are being held on a short distance of 2140m. The two class Premier heats were won by newcomers Isabelle Sisu and Kennedy. 

Sixteen trotters lined up for the first class Premier heat and from this six horses made it to the final stage.

In this heat, Swedish newcomer Isabelle Sisu (Nathaniel Barbara) was unchallenged during the 2140m distance and past the finishing post first easily by a length and a half from Frappe Fort (Jesmar Gafa’), Dragster De Bomo (Cliferty Calleja) and French debutante Fitzy De Vive (Laura Frendo).

Iwan Boko (Noel Baldacchino) and Marrakesh (Owen Borg) followed home in that order.

The early leader of the second class Premier heat, favourite Taiga Woodland (Cherise Farrugia) started to slow down 100 metres from the end and was overtaken by another Swedish debutante Kennedy (Paul Galea) which finished first from Eden De L’Iton (Clint Vassallo).

Taiga Woodland had to settle for third place from El Presidente (Charles Camilleri), Caprice De Cosse (Mario Fenech) and Ellington Dream (Jesmar Gafa’).

Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held next Sunday. The first race should start at 1pm.
