Sprinters Beppe Grillo and Thea Parnis Coleiro set new personal bests as they represented Malta during last weekend’s European Athletics Indoor Championships, in the Netherlands.

On Saturday, Grillo came out from the blocks in lane 3 as he clocked his 60m heat in 6.83s, an improvement of 0.03s from his previous best time.

The 60m national records remain under the custody of Darren Gilford, 6.76 on an indoor course and 6.82 at the Marsa track, both set in 2004.

Parnis Coleiro, on their part, featured in Sunday’s heat, racing in lane 8 where she was alongside eventual gold medalist Zaynab Dosso of Italy.

The Maltese athlete, whose previous best time was 7.74 set earlier this year, managed to chalk off an impressive 0.13s and finish the line at 7.61.

The women’s national records are 7.44, indoor, set by Charlotte Wingfield in 2017 and 7.47, at Marsa, ran by Carla Scicluna last year.
