The eighth meeting of the season consisting of eleven races all for trotters was held on Sunday afternoon at the Marsa Raectrack.
The most important event was the Assikura Championship final for class Gold trotters on a short distance of 2140 metres. This was won by Summerrazz under the guidance of Paul Galea.
Eleven trotters lined up for the class Gold final. Summerrazz (Paul Galea) was the fastest trotter at first, opening a small lead from favourite Carbonfiber (Jesmar Gafa’) and Weather Chart (Anton Cassar).
Summerrazz was consistent through all the 2140 metres distance and triumphed easily by two lengths from First Dream (Redent Magro) and Awesome Kronos (Noel Baldacchino). Concerto Star (Cherise Farrugia) ended in fourth place.
At the end of this final, Andrew Grech, on behalf of the sponsors, presented the winning trophy to, Claydon Mifsud and Paul Galea owner and driver respectively of the winning horse. The winner clocked an average time of 1.14.6” per kilometer.
Sunday’s card included also the Tazza San Franġisk – Gain Equine Nutrition semifinals for class Copper trotters also on a short distance.
In the first semi-final, the early leader, Fanfan Stuart (Noel Baldacchino) was outsmarted by Rose Lloyd (Dwayne Farrugia) 50 metres from the finishing line.
King Of Terrail (Charles Camilleri), Jasmin De Coulamer (Clifton Farrugia), Ernest Des Angles (Charlton Gauci) and Invite De Star (Jason Zahra) also made it to the final stage.
For Rose Lloyd this was its second win of the season.
Head Over Heels (Frederick Mallia) led all the way during the 2,140 metres distance of the second Copper semi final. This French mare sealed its second win in a row by a length and a half from Hendy D’Auberville (Charles Camilleri), Oro Doc (Carl Caruana) and Idoline (Rodney Gatt).
High Handed (Gabriel Micallef) and Influx Du Parc (Ramon Briffa) followed home in that order.
Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held on Saturday. The first race should start at 1pm.
