Malta obtained two massive victories and a defeat against favourites Andorra on the first day of the Rugby 7’s tournament of the Andorra GSSE.
In the first match Malta demolished Montenegro 47-0 in a one sided affair. The Maltese dominated from start to finish with the match resulting in a training spin for the boys in red.
Christopher Dudman was the best scorer with 17 points, followed by Zarin Galea with 15. Brooklyn Hardaker, Kyle Gauci and Dimitrije Avramovic made five points each.
In the second game Malta was again dominant this time beating San Marino 50-14. Christopher Dudman was again Malta’s best scorer with 17 points, followed by Brooklyn Hardaker with 10 points. Malta’s other points were obtained by Thomas Holloway, Cameron Sultana, Josh Gatt, Adam Kelly, and Dimitrije Avramovic, who all got five points each.
In the third game Malta was defeated by Andorra 24-14, with Malta thus suffering the first defeat against the favourites of the competition. Zarin Galea was Malta’s best scorer with ten points.
Tennis results
In tennis, positive results from the men’s singles competition, as both Liam Delicata and Alex De Gabriele had easy wins to move into the last eight.
In the morning session, Liam Delicata had the better of Anton Magnusson of Iceland, winning in two sets 61-, 6-3.
In the afternoon, Alex De Gabriele also moved to the quarter-final stages after beating Andorra’s Guilleme Davisse Vidal 6-2, 6-2.
In the evening, the mixed doubles team composed of Matthew Asciak and Francesca Curmi played against Eric Cervos Noguer and Judit Carlana Alana of Andorra.
The Maltese pair advanced to the semi-finals with an easy 6-4, 6-2 victory.
