Maltese waterpolo mourning the death of former Neptunes player Alex Stellini and Ta’ Xbiex president Victor Pace

Maltese waterpolo is mourning the passing of two popular figures in the local game, Alex Stellini, a former Neptunes WPSC player and administrator and Ta’ Xbiex ASC president Victor Pace.

Stellini was a major figure within the Neptunes WPSC organisation as he dedicated his life to the club.

“It is with deep sadness that the Neptunes WPSC family mourns the passing of Alex Stellini – a loyal clubman, former player, long-standing committee member, and most importantly, a true gentleman,” Neptunes WPSC said in a statement.

“Alex was more than just a part of our club’s history – he was a pillar of our community. His unwavering support, quiet strength, and dignified presence were felt by all who had the honour to know him. Whether poolside cheering us on or working behind the scenes, Alex’s commitment to Neptunes never wavered.

“He leaves behind a lasting legacy, not just as a dedicated servant of the club, but as a kind and humble soul who led by example. We send our heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife JoAnna, and his children Gianfranco, Michele, and Roberta Stellini – all part of the Neptunes family in their own right.

“Alex will be dearly missed, fondly remembered, and always honoured.”

Stellini played for Neptunes between 1969 and 1981, and he transmitted the passion for the game also to his three children as Michele Stellini enjoyed a long and successful spell with Neptunes between 1999 and 2015 before continuing his career at Exiles and Valletta.

Gianfranco Stellini also played waterpolo for a few years while his sister Roberta Stellini was an established swimmer, winning two medals for Malta in the 1993 GSSE, and for the past years has been serving as a swimming coach.

On the other hand, Victor Pace served as president at Ta’ Xbiex ASC and he worked really hard in the past few years to put the club on solid foundations.

“It is with great sorrow to communicate the demise of our beloved president Victor Pace,” the club said in a statement.

“Victor (Ganni as we used to call him ) has been the president of the club for several years and worked hard for the clubs ambitions. Above all, Victor was a true gentleman and a true friend.

“You will surely be missed by the clubs committee and members.

“Heartfelt condolences go to the family.”
