The second race of the five-race 10K Hudson Series Powered by Nike took
place on Sunday morning in Maqluba.
The two-loop course, known for its
undulating terrain, continues to attract strong participation, as it has since
its introduction a decade ago.
The 10Km race developed into a closely contested battle between Tommy
Wallbank and Charlton Debono. Wallbank, one of the emerging names on the local
racing scene, and Debono, making a welcome return to the series with a wealth
of experience to his name, ran shoulder to shoulder for much of the race.
A late surge in the final 1.5km saw Wallbank edge ahead to secure the win in
33:19, just ahead of Debono in 33:41.
This marked Wallbank’s first victory in this year’s series. Mark Herrera
completed the podium in third place, holding off strong challenges from Jordan
Britcliffe and Aaron Mifsud, the latter also returning to the series.
In the women’s 10K race, Josann Attard Pulis (42:48) led the field, with
Catherine Chetcuti (43:06) keeping the pressure on throughout. Therese Calleja
secured third place, completing the course in 46:40.
The 5Km race also delivered a tight contest, with Adrian Cutajar holding off
Brandon Saliba in the closing stages. Cutajar crossed the line in 16:59, just
two seconds ahead of Saliba, while Luke Vella finished third in 17:35.
In the women’s 5Km event, Charyl Fava produced a strong performance to take
the win in 19:56. Chrystal Parnis followed in second place with a time of
21:45, while Anabel Casingena completed the podium in 22:13, with both athletes
making their first appearance on the series podium.
Race organisers expressed their appreciation to Hudson for their continued
support, as well as to the Qrendi and Żurrieq Local Councils, Transport Malta,
volunteers, and race officials for their contribution to the successful staging
of the event.
The third race of the Hudson Race Series Powered by Nike will take place in
Dingli on Sunday 10th May.
