Malta’s Traditional & Field Archery team continue international rise

The Malta Traditional and Field Archery team continued to make its mark internationally, returning home with further medals following a successful three-day Outdoor 3D competition held in France.

Competing against archers from six other nations, the Maltese team demonstrated both consistency and growth across multiple divisions, further strengthening Malta’s reputation within the international traditional and field archery community.

Benji Ellul secured the gold medal in the Hunter Division while Gabriel Mamo Drury took the bronze medal in the Longbow Division.

These latest results follow a strong run of recent international success for Maltese archers across both individual and team events.

The Maltese selection then took part in the IFAA Indoor Mail Match.

Here, Mamo Drury, Hadrian Sultana and Tony Galea all returned home with a gold medal around their neck when topping their respective divisions.

Del McHenry and Mark Spice secured a silver medal while David Zammit won a bronze medal.

The Maltese team then headed to the European Indoor Archery Championships.

Here, Ray Napier and Mamo Drury took the silver medal in the Longbow Style Team Event.

In a statement, the Maltese governing body of archery said: “The continued growth of Malta’s Traditional and Field Archery scene reflects the increasing dedication of its athletes, coaches, and organisers, with more Maltese archers regularly competing abroad and gaining valuable international experience

“With momentum continuing to build throughout 2026, the team has now set its sights on the upcoming Canyon Cup, scheduled to take place this October in Crete, where Maltese archers will once again compete against international opposition.

“The Malta Field Archery Association congratulates all participating athletes for their performances and for continuing to represent Malta proudly on the international stage.”
