Cynthia Frendo Duca will compete in women’s division
Matthew Magro is hopeful of ending his wait to represent Malta in an international competition this week when he travels to France to take part in the QubicaAMF Promotion Cup.
Magro is not the only Maltese bowler to take part in the tournament as Cynthia Frendo Duca will also be travelling to France this week.
The tournament is a daily competition that reaches its highlight at the end of the week when the categories finals are followed by the Masters final.
The participating bowlers are hopeful things to go more smoothly as compared to other sports and that the week-long tournament will be held safely despite the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The biggest concern for Magro and the other top amateur and professional bowlers who will compete in the tournament was the quarantine restriction upon travelling to mainland France. But until now the area is safe to travel to.
“The prospect of competing again makes me really excited” Magro said.
“I am lucky that I could prepare myself with my coach Rick Vogelesang at the Eden Superbowl who took all the necessary safety precautions lined up by Sport Malta when it reopened after the lockdown.”
Frendo Duca, who had placed fourth in the Kosovo Open, warmed up for the tournament when she placed third in the recently-held National Championships.
“This is the second time that I was invited to take part in the tournament,” Frendo Duca said.
“Last year, I also had an invitation for this tournament but I couldn’t make it due to a packed schedule.
“However, this year I was happy that the organisers again offered me the chance to compete and I accepted to go.”
