Sue Abela secures fourth Flanders Senior Open victory and EBF Presidium election

Malta’s bowling legend, Sue Abela, of the Bowling Academy, has achieved a historic milestone by winning the prestigious Flanders Senior Open 2025 in Deurne, Belgium, for a fourth time.

This victory comes shortly after Abela was recently elected to the Presidium of the European Bowling Federation (EBF).
Abela, widely considered one of Europe’s most decorated bowlers, will now contribute her vast competitive experience to the executive body of European bowling.

Abela secured the title after a dominant performance through the tournament’s challenging format, which involved a 6-game qualification, a 4-game Final Step 1 (top 8), and a decisive 5-game Round Robin (top 6).

Abela topped the standings with a total score of 1,156 pints to finish ahead of Netten Beate, of Germany, who managed 1,056 while England’s Angie Brown placed third on 1,037.

Sunday’s triumph, coupled with her new leadership role at the EBF, cements Abela’s status as a key figure in European bowling, both on and off the lanes.
