Swieqi United have reached the final of the FMA Futsal National League as they beat Valletta Futsal 6-4.
It was a fine performance by Swieqi who confirmed their good form of late to book an historic place in the final against current champions Luxol.
The match turned out to be a hard-fought match between two teams who enjoyed a positive campaign.
Valletta were looking for redemption as they came into the match after losing the decider against Luxol.
Still, Swieqi had other ideas as they had Colombian duo Riano Garcia and Pardo Umana in fine form as they inspired their team for the final victory.
Swieqi were in total control as they surged into a 5-1 lead but Valletta tried to force their way back but it was too little too later.
They also had George Frendo and Camilo Gomez sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
Swieqi surged 2-0 ahead through Pardo Umana with his second goal coming from the penalty spot before Riano Garcia made it 3-0 just before half-time.
In the second half, Valletta showed signs of improvement and they reduced the score thanks to substitute Shawn Darmanin who tapped in a Zvezdan Vukovic pass.
Despite this goal, Swieqi remained focused and it was Michael Borg who hit a low strike that completely surprised the Valletta keeper.
Swieqi made it 5-1 when Karl Sciortino scored from close range.
Valletta made a fierce reaction and the final stages were dramatic after they scored three times to close the gap to 5-4 through a Ryan Gatt brace and another goal by Camilo Gomez.
With Valletta finishing the game with four players after Camilo’s sending off, Swieqi sealed their qualification with another goal by Michael Borg who completed a personal brace.
Swieqi play the final of the FMA Futsal National League to be played on Friday at 8.45pm at the National Sports School in Pembroke against Luxol St Andrews.
