Antoine Du Bourg and Infinite Knight won Sunday’s major events at the Marsa Racetrack. These were the semifinals from the Tazza l-Kbira championship for class Premier trotters on a long distance of 2,640m.
These races formed part of the 17th meeting of the season made up of nine races all for trotters. Once again this year, the Tazza l-Kbira competition is being organised with the financial support of Bank of Valletta.
As expected in the first semifinal, favourite and winner of the last year’s edition, Antoine Du Bourg (Redent Magro) took the lead immediately after the official start of the race and opened a small lead from Unstoppable (Carl Caruana) and Gigant Well (Charles Degiorgio). Antoine Du Bourg was unchallenged during the 2,640m distance and past the finishing post first easily by three lengths from Gigant Well and Caviar Du Vivier (Rodney Gatt) Unstoppable had to settle for fourth place from Dunbar (Cliferty Calleja) and Bara Min (Clint Vassallo). For Antoine Du Bourg this was its third win in a row.
The second semifinal from the same championship was characterised by a keen duel in the final straight between the Swedish mare Infinite Knight (Charles Degiorgio) and Charming Soldier (Cliferty Calleja). It was the former which sealed its second consecutive win and in Malta. Andante (Cherise Farrugia), Dynamit Life (Kerstin Galea), Doudou De Bouere (Jean Claude Pace) and Bambino Des Flots (Noel Baldacchino) were the last trotters to make it to the final stage.
Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held next Saturday. The first race should start at 1.30pm.
