Defi Orageux, Caucasien, and Mac Smily won Sunday’s major events at the Marsa Racetrack.
These were three semi-finals from the Assikura Championship for class Gold trotters on a short distance of 2,140m. These races formed part of the fifth meeting of the year consisting of ten races all for trotters.
From the three class Gold semi-finals, twelve horses made it to the final stage. In the first semifinal, the early leader, Fairplay Du Vivier (Ludvic Ghigo), was outsmarted by Defi Orageux (Rodney Gatt) midway through the final straight.
Classic d’Urzy (Noel Baldacchino) and Elorn (Charles Camilleri) ended respectively in third and fourth place.
There was a close finish between Caucasien (Noel Baldacchino) and Liam Dana (Charles Camilleri) in the second class Gold semi-final.
It was the former that sealed its second win of the year with Shining Armor (Carl Caruana) and Flash De Celland (David Ellul) following behind in that order.
German Mac Smily (Rodney Gatt) upped its pace during the last 400 metres of the third and last class Gold semi-final.
Gatt’s trotter registered its first win of the season from favourite Dunbar (Redent Magro) and Cruise (Paul Galea). Dreams Happen (Cliferty Calleja) also made it to the final stage.
For Gatt, this was his third win of the day.
Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held on Saturday. The first race should start at 1.15pm.
