SportMalta will celebrate the achievements of Maltese sport during a two-day event to be organised at the Excelsior Hotel in Floriana between Friday and Saturday.
The event, ‘Celebrating Sport in Malta,’ will consist of a two-day seminar that will focus on several key subjects aimed at enhancing the role of sport and physical activity in everyday life.
European Aquatics president Antonio Silva will discuss the governing body’s Safe Europe: Learning to Swim and Prevent Drowning Programme, which aims to enhance swimming education and water safety.
Dr John Xerri De Caro will speak about promoting physical activity in the retirement process, and encouraging an active lifestyle during the transition to retirement.
During the seminar there will also be a discussion on health-enhancing physical activity and the national fitness surveillance programme which is aimed at improving one’s well-being.
Professor Gregor Starc will discuss an interesting programme initiated in Slovenia, SLOfit, aimed at fighting a large decline of physical efficiency and an alarming increase in obesity among children as a direct consequence of government measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 infections
On the other hand, Aurelien Favre, Chief Executive Officer of the European Observatoire du Sport, will speak on the Erasmus+ experiences and its best practices.
At the end of the two-day seminar, Clifton Grima, the Minister for Sport and Education, will be distributing €1.3 million in assistance to over 100 associations.
Then on Friday evening, Sport Malta will be hosting a Recognition Night at the Excelsior Hotel.
During the night there will be 13 recognitions to various personalities and NGOs and associations who contribute in any way to promote sport and physical activity or to reach their aim through sport.
