Malta’s bowling legend, Sue Abela, has once again demonstrated her exceptional talent and unwavering determination by successfully defending her title at the Euro Bowling Senior Open 2025 on Sunday.
The prestigious tournament, which is part of the ISBT tour 2025, witnessed Abela’s dominance from start to finish.
Abela’s journey to victory began on Saturday, when she showcased her consistency and skill, topping the qualifying rounds with a score of 1309.
This earned her a bye in the first round of the finals, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown.
On the final day, competition intensified as the bottom eight bowlers battled for four places in the next round to be joined by the four bowlers that had a bye. This round would determine the final four.
Abela maintained her composure and navigated through the pressure to secure her position at the summit.
The subsequent four games saw a fierce contest, with Belgium’s Liliane Vintens posing a significant challenge. However, Abela’s resilience and strategic play allowed her to maintain a narrow lead.
The decisive final round tested the bowlers’ endurance and precision.
Abela, displaying her championship pedigree, delivered a score of 652 over the last three games. This solidified her victory, securing her consecutive titles and cementing her status as a dominant force in senior tenpin bowling.
In the men’s division, the competition was equally intense, with Geert-Jan van Baest from the Netherlands emerging as the champion, adding another highlight to the tournament.
