Former Malta international defender Brian Said was named as the new coach of Melita FC, the Challenge League club announced.
Said has been working in football management for a few years and in the last two season he was working as assistant coach at Floriana FC, where he worked first with Mauro Camoranesi in season 2023-24, and then was the right-hand man of Darren Abdilla last season.
Earlier this week, Floriana FC announced that they had parted ways with both Abdilla and Said, and Melita FC immediately targeted the former Floriana fullback.
Melita FC were looking for a first-team coach following the departure of Clive Mizzi who opted to join Premier League side Gżira United.
“Melita FC is proud to confirm the appointment of Brian Said as the club’s new First Team Coach,” the club said in a statement.
“Brian is no stranger to Maltese football fans. A stalwart defender in his playing days, he earned 91 international caps for Malta and featured for several top domestic clubs.
“In recent years, he has transitioned smoothly into coaching, serving as Assistant Coach at Floriana FC over the past two seasons and currently in the final stages of earning his UEFA Pro qualification.”
On his part, club president Matthew Naudi said that Said’s leadership qualities align perfectly with the club’s ambitions.
“We’re extremely proud to have someone of Brian’s calibre joining Melita FC.“ said Club President Matthew Naudi.
“We are confident that his leadership, values, and footballing philosophy align perfectly with the culture and ambitions of Melita FC.”
