Dj Spritz and Farmer Keryvon won Sunday’s major events at the Marsa Racetrack.
These were the EquestriMalta President’s Cup Semifinals for class Premier trotters on a short distance of 2140 metres. These semi-finals formed part of the seventh meeting of the season, consisting of eight races all for trotters.
From the two class Premier semi-finals, twelve trotters made it to the final stage.
In the first semifinal, as expected, favourite DJ Spritz (Daniel Hili) was unchallenged during the 2140 metres distance and obtained its third win in a row and in Malta by a length and a half from Falko De Nouville (Rodney Gatt) and Felix Du Bourg (Miguel McKay).
Eldorado De Ver (Noel Baldacchino) ended in fourth place from Extra Du Chatelet (Ludvic Ghigo) and Ellington Dream (Paul Galea). The winner clocked an impressive average time of 1.12.9” per kilometre.
There was a keen duel between the early leader, Farmer Keryvon (Rodney Gatt) and Diablo D’Herfraie (Jesmar Gafa’) midway through the final straight of the second class Premier sem-final.
It was the former which registered its second win of the year with Awesome Kronos (Dylan Baldacchino), Rampant (Cherise Farrugia), Gingko Thelois (Paul Galea) and Zinfandel (Charles Camilleri) following home in that order.
During the same meeting, Rodney Gatt was awarded as the best driver of last season, Cherise Farrugia as the best driver in the Under 25 category, and the owners of the trotter Lee Harvey Bros after finishing the most consistent horse last year.
