During the week, several important matches were played in the Futsal cup competitions, namely the Laferla Futsal Trophy in the men’s section and the women’s Enemed Trophy.
These fixtures proved decisive as the two finalists of the women’s competition were decided, while four teams progressed to the semi-finals of the men’s tournament.
Women’s Enemed Trophy
The semi-finals of the Enemed Trophy delivered two competitive and closely fought encounters.
Zero Sei Futsal secured a 2-1 victory over Luxol St Andrews Futsal in a well-balanced contest that remained open until the closing stages.
Csik proved to be the key player for Zero Sei, scoring both goals to guide her team into the final.
In the other semi-final, Swieqi United Futsal had to come from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against University of Malta Futsal Women.
The game remained goalless after extra time, meaning penalties were required to separate the sides, with Swieqi eventually emerging victorious.
As a result, the final of the Enemed Trophy will see Swieqi United Futsal face Zero Sei Futsal, with the decisive clash scheduled for May 26.
Laferla Men Futsal Trophy
The quarter-finals of the Laferla Futsal Trophy turned out to be entertaining matches, filled with action and goals.
Futsal Selection U17 overcame Żejtun Corinthians Futsal 4-2 to secure their place in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Luxol Futsal – fresh from their triumph in the Futsal Super Cup Malta – registered an emphatic 7-1 win over Birżebbuġa Futsal.
A very balanced encounter saw University of Malta Futsal edge past Marsaskala Futsal 3-2, with the winning goal arriving in the final seconds of the match.
In the last quarter-final, Futsal Selection U19 produced a strong comeback to defeat Sliema Futsal Fort Fitness 3-2.
The men’s semi-final line-up is now complete, with University of Malta Futsal set to face Luxol Futsal, while Futsal Selection U17 will take on Futsal Selection U-19 in what promises to be an exciting clash between two talented youth selections.
