Kim Camilleri Lagana achieved a remarkable result at the European Under 15 Championships as the Maltese young weightlifter secured three bronze medals in the 45kg category in Chisinau, Moldova.
Lagana’s outstanding achievements included equaling her personal best in the snatch event and setting new national records in both the clean & jerk and total weight lifted.
In a highly competitive field, Ukraine’s Kateryna Malashchuk emerged as the winner of the European Under 15 Championships, with Boyana Kostadinova, of Bulgaria, securing the second position.
However, it was Camilleri Lagana who captured the attention with her exceptional performance in the 45kg category.
In the Snatch event, Camilleri Lagana successfully lifted 57kg, equaling her personal best, to underline her consistency and ability to perform under pressure to place third.
The clean & jerk event proved to be a breakthrough moment for Camilleri Lagana, as she showcased her strength and technique.
With a remarkable lift of 74kg, she not only secured the bronze medal in this event but also set a new national record.
In the end, Camilleri Lagana totalled an impressive total of 131kg which not only saw her set a new national mark but more importantly earned her a third bronze medal.
In a statement, the Malta Weightlifting Association heaped praise on the performance of Camilleri Lagana.
“Lagana’s remarkable performance serves as an inspiration to young weightlifters in the country and demonstrates the potential for further success in her promising career,” the statement said.
“Kim Camilleri Lagana’s outstanding performance at the European Under 15 Championships in Chisinau, Moldova, has brought great pride to Malta.
“Winning three bronze medals in the 45kg category, demonstrated Camilleri Lagana’s talent, determination, and exceptional skills as a weightlifter.
“No doubt, setting new personal best and national records in the event was the result of her dedication and underline the huge potential she possesses for further success in the future.
“With such remarkable achievements at a young age, Lagana is undoubtedly a rising star in the world of weightlifting.”
